| Persian Cats Origin of Breed -
Wikipedia.org |
| The Persian cat originates
from the
Iranian plateau, a large area between the Hindukush mountains and
Mesopotamia traditionally known as "Persia" in the
West, corresponding to the central territories of the Persian Empire.
However, interbreeding of Angoras with native British domestic
longhairs in the 19th Century makes the true origin of the breed
unclear. The Persian's European debut is credited to Pietro Della
Valle, an Italian traveler. |
| Persian Cat Ancestry |
| Perhaps the most regal of all
feline histories, almost all longhaired
cats owe their ancestry to the Persian. Though their specific origin is
not known, credit is given to the peoples of Turkey, Iran (Persia) and
their neighbors for the earliest association with longhaired cats,
circa the 16th century. Throughout the years, the Persian became the
standard by which all longhaired cats were measured. |
| The History of Persian Cat |
| The Persian longhairs are
reported to have been discovered there by
Europeans in 1614.
Then the cats were kept by nobles in France
and Italy. Due to the long
history of the Persian opinions on its origin differ. Some breeders
deny the Iran's origin in favor of Russia or other countries. In 1871
the Persian was brought to London and became soon quite popular in
England and next worlwide. In England the Persian was first registered
among the first cats breeds. Now the Persian is the most popular cats
breed in the world. |

Iran is a term for the Iranian
plateau
in addition to the entire region with
significant Iranian cultural
influence. It roughly corresponds to the territory stretching from the Caucasus to the Indus River, or that of the
two Persian Empires (Achaemenid

to the historical understanding of the full territory of "Iran."
