| Brushing
Your Persian's Coat |
Groom
your Persian's coat daily or at least every other day. Breeders
recommend using a natural bristle brush (soft) and/or a comb. Avoid
nylon combs because they generate static electricity. Depending on the
breed, your cat can either have long or short hair. Make sure that you
brush your cat’s coat well enough to promote proper grooming.
For cats with short
hair, use a brush with soft bristles so that the skin will not be
scratched or hurt in the grooming process.
As
compared to cats with shorter
hair, long-haired cats would require more brushing time.
Do not
forget to brush the hair
around the face with a smaller comb or a toothbrush.
Avoid the
eye and whisker area
when brushing.

| Bathing
Your Persian Twice A Month |
Sometimes, a substance that
can possibly
poison them sticks on the fur and it is vital to give them a bath in
this case. Another instance where you need to bathe your cat is in case
of fleas, ticks and lice clinging to their skin. Bathe your Persian
regularly- once or twice a month. Fill a basin/tub with lukewarm water.
Using cat shampoo, work up a lather all over the fur. Be careful around
the eyes and ears. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry. Be sure to run a
comb through the coat to prevent matting. Let the cat dry in a warm
environment- some people even blow dry their cats.

Clean Persian Ears
|
| After the
bath or after drying is a good time to clean the ears out. That way you
can be sure they aren’t wet after the bath. Many people are
actually afraid to clean their cat's ears because they are afraid of
"hurting" their cat in the process. You may need to clean your cat's
ears as a preliminary to administering medication for mites, or just as
a part of regular grooming. Ear mites can be common especially if the
cat has been exposed to other cats or dogs. They can easily be treated
with medicines best bought from your veterinarian |

| Trim A Nail |
| Nails should be trimmed weekly
for optimum maintenance. If possible start training
your cat to have her claws trimmed as a kitten. This
will protect furniture from being used as a scratching post or damaged
during play by sharp claws. Be sure
to reward your cat with a special food treat-one that she receives only
during claw trimming or some other grooming procedure-during or
immediately after trimming. The best time to trim your cat's claws is
when she is relaxed or sleepy. Never try to give a pedicure right after
a stressful experience or an energetic round of play. |
