Good

The Persian's Ears |
This should be incorporated
into your
cat's regular grooming regime. It is advised that you begin this from
an early age so your cat becomes used to it. You should be looking for
the following:
Build up of dirt & wax
Blood
Bad odour
Lumps
Redness & inflammation
Scratching & shaking may be
an indicator of ear mites

| Basic Step You Should Know And Do |
| You should clean your cats
ears at least
once a week, again no fun for you or the cat, but it must be done to
prevent infection. You can visit your local pet supply store to
purchase a commercial feline ear cleaning product, or ask your
veterinarian for his suggestion. When you are grooming your cat, squirt
some of the ear cleaner into your cat’s ear canal, and then
gently rub the base of the outside of her ear with your fingers, which
will help loosen up wax and dirt that may be lurking in there. Use a
cotton ball to then gently wipe out your cat’s ear, and
continue
the process until you don’t see anymore dirt in your
cat’s
ear. In cats who are prone to ear problems, or who have been neglected,
you may have to do this as often as two times a day, at least for a
couple of weeks. |
| Some Tips How To Clean The Ears |
Restrain
your cat. Wrap your kitty in a large thick towel with just her head
exposed. This will keep her from wriggling out of your grasp or
scratching you.
Only
clean the ears of a happy cat. At home, do the cleaning when the cat is
happy, not after a bath or associated with other treatments such as
nail clipping.
Clean
the ear lobe. Using a cotton ball moistened with water, gently rub the
large pieces of dirt, wax and debris off the ear lobe. Repeat on the
opposite ear.
If the
ears appear very dark and dirty, it may be a sign of ear mites
(which cats will pick up from the garden or yard) and this will need
veterinary attention. Usually the cat will do quite a lot of scratching
and shaking of the ears and head if mites are involved. Special
medication will be required to rid the ears of the mites, so if any
irritation of the ears is apparent, you should consult your
veterinarian. |
