Caring For Persian's Coat
|
Persian
cats should always be kept inside of the house, to protect their coat.
If they travel outside, they can easily damage their coat. They will
also need to be brushed daily with a metal comb, or their coat can
become tangled, which will lead to hairballs. You’ll need to
bathe your Persian cat on a regular basis as well, to help protect his
coat. Bathing works best when the cat is young, as it will get him used
to it. Bathing should never be overlooked, as it will keep your cats
coat looking clean and healthy. Although some breeds can maintain their
coats on their own, Persians can’t. Their fur is long and
dense
and you’ll need to groom them daily to ensure their coat
stays
healthy.

Hair Coat Loss In Persians
|
Hair
loss is becoming a real serious health problem recently. When your
persian cats begin to scratch continuously, lick and bite at their skin
and rub against objects to relieve discomfort, they have an itchy skin
disorder, and you must attempt to determine the cause. Some persians
have hair coming out in chunks leaving large bald patches. Some hair
loss starts at the tail and moves forward. Others are almost completely
bald.
Sporadic
baldness
in persians can be physical or emotional. For many persians, it may be
caused by allergies, parasites or even an infection of some type. The
answer to why a cat is over grooming is definitely a challenge for a
veterinarian to diagnose. Careful examination and questioning is
necessary in order to determine if the hair is spontaneously falling
out or if the cat is yanking it out. Before you can figure out the
treatment, you have to begin the painful process of figuring out the
cause.
Cats
are commonly
allergic to fleas, food and some airborne type parasites or substances.
Flea allergies occur when fleas bite a persian cat's skin before
drawing blood. If a cat has a flea allergy, even one bite can cause a
severe reaction, resulting in excessive licking and chewing at their
skin.

Do You Know...
|
The
coat is very long (typically 10 cm and up to 20 cm on the ruff) with a
large proportion of secondary follicles. All told, the Persian has 230
miles of hair, compared with a mere 70 miles on a shorthair. Minor
variations are acceptable according to the time of year. The fur is
very fine with an elongated top- and undercoat.
Persians
have the densest coat of any breed of cat. The development of a tool to
measure coat density in vivo (density method) enables Royal Canin to
compute this characteristic scientifically.
Cats lack
a true collarbone and can generally squeeze their bodies through any
space they can get their heads through.
If
you see the cat shivering or under a blanket, cats get cold. If his
ears are cold, he's probably cold. They like to be warm. If the cat is
in a ball, that could be a sign. If it's cold to you then it's cold to
the cat.
According
to the official classification in Europe, the Persian is the only
long haired breed of cat.
